This one-of-a-kind design draws inspiration from Aker, the ancient Egyptian deity depicted as two lions seated back-to back, guarding the horizon. Aker was believed to protect the passage of the sun as it rose and set, embodying both beginnings and endings, protection and transition.
I chose Tiger's Eye to sit in a gold-filled bezel at the heart of this piece because of its shifting golden bands like the sun and its watchful, all-seeing quality associated with ancient protective symbols such as the Eye of Horus. The stone becomes a focal point of clarity, strength and protection, held safely between guardians.
